Ozone systems are one of the most important advancements in clean water technology for hot tubs in years. After your water is filtered, it passes through a special ozonation process that kills bacteria and viruses, and oxidizes, (or burns up), microscopic waste products. These were not trapped in the filter, but can be removed with an ozonator. Remember that while ozone systems are a great supplement to shocking and sanitizing your spa, (and make water care easier), it does not completely replace them.
The ozone generating assembly is most effective for about 18,000 hours, (or 2 years); after that its efficiency drops sharply. Think of this U.V. generating lamp like any light in your house. When you replace a burnt out bulb in the kitchen, you realize how weak the other bulbs in the room are. The other lights are on, but they are not nearly as bright as the new one. Your UltraPure or Crystal Pure Ozone Generator is no different. After about 2 years it’s not nearly as effective as new. Worry not; replacing your generator takes less than 30 minutes and helps keep your water cleaner for 2 years.
Changing the bulb is relatively simple but power to the spa must be turned off. This is done at the GFCI or fuse box on the side of your house.

1. Turn off power at your
GFCI box or main fuse panel!!

2. Remove screws and wooden door
panel from spa cabinet.

3. Loosen screws from the metal panel cover
of the black electrical control box, and slide
the cover up and off. Set the cover aside.

4. Unplug the white power connector.
Squeeze clips on either side and
carefully pull both halves apart.

5. Plug new UltraPure Ozone Generator
Assembly into connector and carefully
set on end. This will help avoid
installing the unit backwards later.

6. Cut vinyl hose from barbs on both
sides of the old tube assembly.
Use scissors or wire cutters to
carefully snip as close to the barb
as possible. Be careful not to cut
any other wires in the equipment
box. Sometimes the barb breaks
off on its own. That’s ok.

7. Remove both screws from black
mounting strips. You will need to
hold the tube assembly carefully
from behind to insure it does not
push against any other electrical
components and cause breakage.

8. Remove UltraPure Ozone
Generator from spa.
9. Place new UltraPure Ozone
Generator Assembly in same
location as old unit. Line up
screw indents on the tube
with mounting strip holes,
for easy installation. You
will need to hold the tube
assembly carefully from behind to insure it does not push against any other electrical components
and cause breakage. Carefully install mounting screws into new tube
assembly using a cordless drill. The aluminum tube is thick and using a
hand screwdriver will be very slow.

10. To attach vinyl hose to the
barbs, putting a little
soapy water on the plastic
barbs before sliding the
hose on can help. The soapy
solution acts as a lubricant.

11. Over time, the vinyl hose
becomes stiff and is diffi cult
to re-attach. Carefully heat
the last 1-2” of the black hose
with a cigarette lighter until it
begins to soften.

12. It should then be easier to
slide over the soapy barb.
(Replacing the vinyl hose
can be a bit trying, so just
be patient and keep at it.)

13. Move the white power connector
off the left side of the P.C. Board
and out of contact with any other
electrical components. Failure
to do this could cause shorting
and damage to your spa’s
electrical system.
14. Turn on power at the GFCI. Within a few minutes the starter bulb fl ickers and the assembly light should come on. The system is operating. (A small percentage of units may not turn on. This probably means the transformer needs replacing too.)
15. Turn power off again at the GFCI.

16. Re-install black control box
panel cover.

17. Re-install wood door to spa cabinet.

18. Turn power on at GFCI
or main fuse box.
